Going to the orthodontist!

Today, Dylan and Emily went for their first visit to the orthodontist! Their dentist had recommended we go and see if and what needed to be done.

First the assistant came in and looked at their teeth. She counted them and notated the numbers on a chart.

First they had to sit in a dentist chair and the orthodontic technician took X-rays and computer pictures of your mouth and teeth. The X-rays and pictures showed the orthodontist where the teeth are positioned and whether you have teeth that haven't come in yet.

The orthodontist will examined their teeth, mouth, and jaws. He asked them to open wide and then bite your teeth together and asked questions about whether they have problems chewing or swallowing or whether their jaws ever click or pop when they opened their mouth.

The technician then made a mold (or impression) of their teeth by pressing a tray of gooey material into their top and bottom teeth.

When the mold is removed, there was a perfect impression of the shape and size of their teeth.
A mold helps the orthodontist decide how to straighten your teeth.

The paste to make the impressions was really slimy and gooey! Neither Dylan or Emily likes the feeling! It made them both gag!
In the end, The orthodontist decided that it was best for Emily to wait for treatment, as she still had many baby teeth to loose. As for Dylan, He definitely needs braces. We will discuss things in the next few weeks and hopefully get started in about 6 weeks!
